The highlight of the stand of Villeroy & Boch was the invention of Phanolith. Especially remarkable are the two huge wall plates in the background (upper part of the picture). Their
dimensions are 220 cm x 60 cm, each. After this event, the left plate made its way into the Spetz collection in Issenheim, Alsace, France. In the category ceramics, Phanolith gained the
highest award at the World Fair, the Grand Prix. Keeping in mind that JBS joined V&B as recently as 1895, the collection of works that has been developed in these five years is spectacular.
